Smörgås Chef at Scandinavia House is a full service café and restaurant located on the first floor of the Scandinavia House Cultural Center on Park Avenue in Midtown.

The airy, vibrant space features soaring ceilings, a massive birch tree installation in the dining room center, colorful Arne Jacobsen chairs, and a long white bar counter. The open kitchen opposite the bar allows guests to admire the busy chefs at work.

Lunches are bustling and busy, dinners are calmer and intimate, and brunches are relaxed and family friendly. The current menu offers authentic Scandinavian cuisine, including the smorgasbord tasting plate, seared duck breast with cloudberries, and our popular open-faced sandwiches.

Scandinavia House hosts gallery exhibits, concerts, guest lecturers, and special events, and is a popular location for our Smorgas' catered events. There is a wide range of programs that respresent Nordic culture, including art, design, and historical exhibitions, as well as film series, concerts, readings, lectures, symposia, language courses, children's programs, and performances that illuminate the contemporary vitality of Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway, and Sweden.

Also available at Smörgås Chef at Scandinavia House is the “Dinner and a Movie” series, which offers a three-course dinner plus a film screening for $30 ($26 for ASF members) every Wednesday evening and Saturday afternoon.
